Cincinnati is preparing for its first significant snowfall of the season, and this year the city is rolling out a modernized winter response strategy designed to keep roads clearer and drivers safer.
City officials say snow plow crews will be using new technology, upgraded equipment, and improved training as they work through the storm on 12-hour rotating shifts.
New Snow Plow Tracker Goes Live During Major Weather Events
Every snow truck in the city’s fleet is now equipped with a digital tablet. These devices track each truck’s route, the type of treatment being applied, and how long the driver has been operating.
Residents will soon be able to view this data in real time through Cincinnati’s new Snow Plow Tracker, which becomes active only during full winter operations. When crews are deployed around the clock, residents can watch plow progress across the city as it happens.
Drivers Receive Updated Training for Longer Shifts
Along with upgraded tools, snow plow drivers completed new winter-weather training and are prepared for extended 12-hour day and night shifts to cover all priority routes.
What Drivers Should Expect Tuesday Morning
The city reminds commuters that crews will focus first on:
Major roads
Hills
Bridges
Downtown Cincinnati
Side streets and residential areas will likely take longer to clear, so residents should plan for extra travel time and use caution during the morning commute.
