Ohio may not always be the first place that comes to mind when people talk about beautiful landscapes, exciting destinations or a great quality of life. But those who live here know something others may not: there’s a lot to love about Ohio.

One of the pleasures of living in Ohio is experiencing four distinct seasons.
Spring brings flowering trees, gardens and warmer days. Summer turns the landscape seemingly endless shades of green and gives us long evenings for festivals, farmers markets and outdoor activities.
Then comes one of Ohio's showstoppers: fall.
Across the state, trees turn brilliant shades of red, orange and gold. Country roads, wooded parks and small towns can look almost like scenes from a painting.
Winter brings another personality altogether. Some years we see relatively little snow, while other winters transform parts of the state into a white landscape.
The variety keeps life interesting.
Nature Is Never Too Far Away
You don't necessarily have to travel hundreds of miles to enjoy the outdoors in Ohio.
The state is filled with parks, trails, rivers, lakes, forests and nature preserves. You can spend a morning hiking, take a bike ride in the afternoon, paddle a river, visit a waterfall or simply find a quiet park bench and enjoy the surroundings.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park is one of the state's natural treasures, but it is only part of the story. Ohio's state and local parks provide countless opportunities to get outside and move.
And then there is Lake Erie, giving northern Ohio a waterfront environment that can sometimes make you forget you're in the Midwest.
Big-City Culture Without Losing the Small-Town Feel
Ohio has an interesting balance.
Cities including Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton and Toledo offer museums, professional sports, restaurants, concerts, universities, theaters and cultural attractions.
At the same time, drive a relatively short distance and you can find yourself surrounded by farmland, historic neighborhoods or small communities where people still know their neighbors.
Ohio also has an impressive arts heritage. The Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland Museum of Art are internationally recognized institutions, while communities throughout Ohio support local theaters, galleries, musicians, craftspeople and festivals.

Warm weather brings another Ohio tradition: community festivals.
From food and music festivals to county fairs, outdoor concerts, farmers markets and neighborhood celebrations, Ohio communities find plenty of reasons to gather.

Another reason people choose Ohio is the opportunity to enjoy city amenities without necessarily giving up space, nature or access to smaller communities.
Of course, housing and living expenses vary considerably depending on where you live. But Ohio can offer a different pace from some of America's largest metropolitan areas.
For many people, quality of life isn't about having the biggest city or the most attractions. It's about having enough: places to go, things to do, people to know and room to breathe.
Maybe Ohio's Best Feature Is Its People
Landscapes and attractions matter, but communities are ultimately about people.

People may disagree about politics, sports teams or which Ohio city has the best food—and don't even get us started on football—but there's still something special about neighbors helping neighbors and communities coming together.
Ohio isn't perfect. No place is.

It's comfortable without always being predictable, beautiful without needing to show off and full of places that can still surprise you.
